Two driveways on the same road in Burham finished in a single week - Brett Trio Burnt Oak in a charcoal border for one bungalow, Brett Omega Silver Haze for the neighbours, with soakaways and resin ACO channels draining both

Two driveways, two neighbouring bungalows, one week on site. The properties sit side by side on the same road in Burham, on the Medway valley floor between Rochester and Aylesford, and both homeowners wanted their frontage done at the same time. Running the two jobs together meant one set-up for two finished driveways: Brett Trio Burnt Oak with a charcoal border for number 51, Brett Omega Silver Haze for the neighbours, a soakaway and resin ACO channel under each.

Two Driveways, One Week in Burham

From the road you can see both jobs in one frame. The Silver Haze driveway on the left fills the full width in front of the chalet bungalow; the Burnt Oak driveway on the right runs from the pavement back along the side of number 51 to the timber gates at the rear. There is no fence or kerb between them - the charcoal border on the Burnt Oak side is the boundary line, so both drives read as one wide, open frontage while each homeowner got the block they wanted.

Brett Trio Burnt Oak with a Charcoal Border

The Burnt Oak driveway is the longer of the two. It runs the depth of the plot between the neighbour’s flank wall and the bungalow, then opens out in front of the house and curves around a planting bed on the right. Burnt Oak is a blend of brown, grey and tan tones that sits well against the buff brick here, and the three mixed sizes of the Trio range stop the long run down the side from looking like a corridor. The charcoal border carries the curve around the bed and back along the neighbour’s side in one continuous line.

Brett Omega Silver Haze Next Door

The neighbouring driveway went a different way. Omega Silver Haze is a cool, light grey single-size block, laid here in herringbone across the full width of the frontage. It is the quieter of the two finishes, and it drains exactly as its neighbour does. If you are weighing up a multi-tone Trio blend against a plain Omega block, a pair of driveways side by side like these is the best comparison you will get.

Soakaways and Resin ACO Drains

Resin ACO drainage channel along the pavement edge of a Burnt Oak block paving driveway in Burham, Medway

Burham sits low in the Medway valley, so drainage was designed in rather than added on. Both driveways fall to a resin ACO linear drain along the pavement edge, which collects run-off before it reaches the highway, and each ACO discharges into its own soakaway dug within the plot. Dealing with the water on site is also what keeps a new block paved frontage clear of the planning rules on impermeable surfaces.

Works Completed

  • Brett Trio Burnt Oak block paving - full-depth driveway from pavement to rear gates, three-size random pattern, charcoal border and curved return around the planting bed
  • Brett Omega Silver Haze block paving - single-size light grey block laid in herringbone across the full frontage of the neighbouring bungalow
  • Two soakaways - one per driveway, excavated and backfilled within each plot
  • Two resin ACO linear drains - set along the pavement edge of each driveway, discharging to the soakaways
  • Concrete-haunched edge restraints - holding the borders and the curve around the bed
  • Full groundwork - excavation, compacted sub base, laying course and vibrated, kiln-dried sand jointing on both drives
  • One-week programme - both driveways excavated, laid and finished in the same working week

Block Paving Driveways Across the Medway Valley

Burham is one of the villages we cover along the river between Rochester and Aylesford, alongside Strood, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham and out to the Hoo peninsula. As Medway block paving driveway specialists we install Brett products as an approved contractor, and a pair of neighbouring driveways like this is a good example of what we can turn round in a single week.
